Leaked Images Reaffirm Sony"s Smartphone Lens Camera Arrival
Sony has been as leaky as a sieve when it comes to its much-rumored new Smartphone Lens Camera. Now, a full set of leaked press images offer more clarity than ever about what we can expect.
A full set of 24 images, posted on Photo Rumors, reveals how the lenses—which will, apparently, turn any Android or iOS phone into a high-quality point-and-shoot—attach to phones, as well as contextualizing their size. As a reminder of what the rumor mill has already claimed:
The DSC-QX10 and the DSC-QX100—as they"re claimed to be be called—look like camera lenses, but they"ll actually be full-on cameras packing sensors, a Bionz processor, Wi-Fi and NFC wireless capabilities, and even an SD card slot. What they"ll be missing, however, is an LCD display and controls, but that"s where your Android or iOS smartphone will supposedly step in, providing a large touch screen for settings and previews.
Indeed, these images show two mounting possibilities: one that clips onto a normal smartphone, and another which uses a special case on the phone to attach the lens. Rumor has it that the QX10 will cost $250 and feature a 1/2.3-inch 18-megapixel sensor paired with an f/3.3-5.9 lens, while the The QX100 will cost $450. The extra cash will, if you believe the rumblings, net you a 1-inch 20.2-megapixel Exmor R sensor and a f/1.8-4.9 Carl Zeiss lens, though.
Certainly, these images suggest that the items are easy to slip on and off your phone, and look fairly pocketable, too. It"s expected that Sony will formally announce the new lenses at an even it"s holding tomorrow—so there"s not too long to wait before we find out for sure. [Photo Rumors via Cult of Mac via Verge]
